We were very happy with the Paloma. We took a standard room and they were very comfortable, as was the bed. The bathroom was on the small side and the shower didn't have a lot of water pressure but what do you expect?! The water was heated and they provided all the shampoo, soaps & even toothbrush and comb! The food was generally very good. More importantly, there was plenty of deck space for everyone to eat outside on a balcony, lounge around on a sun bed, or snuggle up on the coaches near the captains cabin.

I strongly recomend the 2 night tour. It is a full 3 to 4 hour bus trip up to Halong and the extra day does give you some time to relax and unwind and fully appreciate this beautiful location. The Paloma definitely looked like one of the best boats that we saw and you couldn't want anything more from the boat. We did have a difficult guest on our cruise and our guide handled him quite well too.

Six of us (two families) did the three day/two night cruise with Paloma Cruises and it was fantastic that make us couldn't have asked for more. It had been difficult to decide which cruise to book before we left Australia but we went with a friend's recommendation and we weren't disappointed. This wasn't the cheapest cruise available but it wasn't the dearest either. The food was excellent - some of the best that we had during our 10 days in Vietnam. The staff were pleasant and professional and we had a great time kayaking, swimming, visiting caves, floating fishing villages and a pearl farm. The road trip from Hanoi isn't a lot of fun but it is well worth the trip. And I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the water was in the bay, especially once you get away from the main harbour.

2 couples from Australia. Retirees but VERY fit and active. Where do we start? The expectations we had were far and away exceeded bu wonderful staff and fantastic food. yes there were minor hiccups but that is all part of the journey.

We were collected in an airconditioned 'super mini bus' from our hotel in Hanoi absolutely on time.Travelled the 4 hours to Ha Long Bay with a stop at the most wonderful and I mean wonderful community centre for disadvantaged people where they work and create the most amazing marble sculptures, silk artwork of world standard, clothing and laquor work second to none - this is not a junk shop. It has very clean toilet facilities and after you have spent 1/2 and hour here you are ready for the onward trip to Ha Long Bay.

All the while you have an English speaking tour host who makes sure that you have everything you need. Arriving at the boat dock, you are taken out to the 'mother ship' where you are welcomed with a full briefing and drinks/food. We had the thee day/two night cruise and you definitely need this to enjoy what the area has to offer. The rooms have superb amenities. FANTASTIC staff, food and activities capped of with a 'formal' BBQ on a deserted private beach - fully catered with wine (all drinks are extra's but at very reasonable prices)

Kayaking, walking, swimming - all available and of course a great limestone cave walk. All in all 110% - we will be back.

And lastly special thanks to the team: Star, Loan (Kate), and the Mr Phuc

My sister and I just came back from a 3D2N Pamola Cruise of Halong Bay which started on the 21st December. We originally wanted to take the Dragon Pearl cruise as I've read a lot of good feedback from other travelers' reviews on trip adviser, however, we were advised that the Dragon Pearl cruise was all booked out.
We ended up pleasantly surprised with Pamola Cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the time on board the junk. Even though we obviously picked the wrong time of the year to travel and the last day was cold and foggy we still managed to enjoy ourselves and took lots of photos and made some new friends.
The room we stayed in was very clean, spacious with all the facilities to keep us comfortable. The crew on board were very friendly and a few of the crew members spoke fluent English and very professional in their service. The food was in abundance, though, I was hoping for more Vietnamese cruisines.

We left the tour very happy with the intention of keeping in contact with some of the friendly boat crew members. We had the intention of recommending Pamola cruise of Halong Bay to my friends and colleagues who have expressed their interest in visiting Vietnam........ however.........

What ruined the whole experience and the good effort put in by members of the crew was the fact that on the way back, instead of dropping us off at our hotel like they did for our fellow cruise mates, and as per indicated in their iternary, we were dropped off at a busy intersection... in the middle of the road!!!!....... about 5 minutes walk to our hotel.

Halong Bay is clearly a must when visting Vietnam, especially if you are in the Hanoi region. I did a fair amount of research on who to travel with and settled on Paloma Cruise, although I did find it difficult to differentiate between a lot of the "mid-range" cruise companies. What I would say is don't scrimp on your tour price by going for a cheap option and definitely book the 3-day/2-night cruise, rather than the 2-day/1-night cruise, assuming you have the time.

The Paloma is an attractive, modern, clean and comfortable boat. I stayed in one of the suites, but as I hardly used the balcony, this was a bit of a waste. I would definitely opt for a cabin with a window view however. The food was plentiful and fantastic. The crew were friendly, helpful and knew their stuff. Halong Bay is stunning, although we had hazy/cloudy weather, so it wasn't ideal for photography and viewing, but the conditions are in the lap of the gods.

Paloma Cruise was an excellent way to experience the beauty of Halong Bay. The rooms were extremely clean and food on board was delicious. We can strongly recommend the 2 night cruise, where you get to spend a day swimming and having a wonderful barbecue on a small private beach. The kayaking excursions were a real treat and we had a wonderful guide that helped us navigate through some incredible scenery including hidden caves. It is not the fanciest boat on Halong Bay, but it is a great value and provides a clean and safe way to tour the gorgeous setting.
